The Appalachian Theology Institute exists to further the mission of biblical literacy to the glory of God by providing high-quality educational courses.
Our first program is a Beginner's Certificate in Apologetics. It is offered entirely free of charge to all eligible people. The current program entails the completion of six courses (which are subject to change):
1. Foundations of Apologetics - What apologetics is, why it is necessary, and methods in apologetics.
2. Christian Doctrine - The meaning and significance of basic Christian beliefs as described in select historic confessions.
3. Biblical Interpretation - How to interpret the Bible correctly and address objections to Christianity that stem from sloppy interpretation.
4. Intro to Classical Apologetics - Surveys arguments and evidence for the existence of truth, the existence of God, the resurrection of Jesus, and the total truthfulness of the Bible.
5. The Historical Jesus - Examines the existence of Jesus, with particular emphasis on making a case for His resurrection and responding to objections.
6. Final Project - This course requires each student to develop an individualized plan for continuing their studies in apologetics, and to identify ways to engage in apologetic ministry in their local context.
Stay tuned for updates on new certificate programs in the future! To be eligible to enroll in the certificate program, you must subscribe to basic historical creeds of the Christian faith (Apostle's Creed, Nicene Creed, Athanasian Creed, etc.).
